we had a meal here and it was just outstanding pub grub. The pub was vibrant and had a warm welcoming feel to it, it was very busy but we never waited very long between being served and the meal arriving. In summary good honest food and great value for money. We will defiantly go back again.

“My favourite pub in in Colchester”

5 of 5 Stars

The Purple dog is my favourite pub in Colchester, I would choose go here for so many different occasions…a celebration, lunch with a friend, work night out etc. For that reason I love it. A very friendly and cosy little pub, great selection of drinks and very good food. They also do a great quiz on the first Monday of each month which raises money for charities. It is always busy with a great a great atmosphere. Overall..I just love it 🙂

“Great atmosphere!”

5 of 5 Stars

Surprisingly good food and great bar atmosphere! May be a little noisy, if you are up for a calm lunch, but the bar atmosphere was great for my part! However, you have to order your food and drinks in the bar, which might be a little “pushy” with many guests trying to get through.

“Surrounded by History and food is great”

5 of 5 Stars

We visited this pub twice and it was great value as well as being a wonderful place to soak up its historic story. Service is friendly and food served quickly. It was also clean and a good place to spend a quiet hour or so during an afternoon.

“Good grub”

5 of 5 Stars

Whilst visiting Colchester we stopped at The Purple Dog for Sunday lunch. Went for the Sunday roast option, the food was very good, a good portion of meat and ample vegetables, all very tasty. If we are back in the area we would use again.

“A lovely surprise”

5 of 5 Stars

Went to Colchester and came across this strange sounding pub by accident. It was very busy, the food was excellent and it had a real buzzy atmosphere. People from all age groups were in there. A great menu, so difficult to choose. Friendly staff. Great value. Will visit again.
